ARTIST STATEMENT

I relish the act of sculpting and painting! Creating my signature Figures in Fabric Sculptures lets me do both. First, I sense a wondrous connection to the live subject/model as I intuitively drape, mold, and quickly harden fabric over their posed body to form the sculpture. Later, I enhance its illusion of having energy and motion by brushing and wiping the solid fabric with layers of paint and glazes.

Viewing my lifelike sculptures in person allows you to privately examine and contemplate the essence of another person – someone who seems real, but anonymously intriguing. You may discover some aspect of yourself in my art; although people may differ greatly in appearance, expression, and mindset, we know that in our hearts we all share the same essential feelings and needs. My hope is to awaken us to our shared humanity and foster connection through the medium of my art.

BIOGRAPHY

Tracy preview LR 5590.JPG

Gina has always enjoyed creating art of, with, and for people, including drawn and painted portraits, plus mixed media artwork that incorporated treasured clothing and belongings. She tells her subjects’ stories through her art.

After earning her BFA from Colorado State University, Gina worked as a graphic designer, illustrator, and art director. In 2003, she left the commercial realm to dedicate herself entirely to creating fine art. Gina’s initial 2D and 3D portraiture led to numerous private commissions and charitable projects.

Then in 2017, her vision expanded. She had an epiphany of forming life-size figurative sculptures from live models by molding large sheets of fabric directly from their bodies. Since inventing her signature Figurative Fabric Sculptures formula and technique, Gina has created sculptures of Paralympians, Colorado Ballet dancers, mothers-to-be, and more. Her sculptures can be seen at various exhibits and at the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Visitor Center in Colorado Springs. They’ve also been exhibited at the History Colorado Center and the Armstrong Center for Dance. Gina’s sculpture, Nightscape, was included in Fine Art Connoisseur Magazine’s feature article Today's Masters: Go Figure.

Gina lives, works, and plays in Denver, Colorado.
